This e-book is not about something that I created. Rather, it's about hidden gems that I've found over the years, either through researching myself or through word-of-mouth. It is not my place to teach you these gems, so I will merely be giving you their names and telling you where you can find them (if you wish to learn them). I will, however, provide an effect description for each of them.
You might be wondering, "What's the point of buying this PDF in that case?" The point is that I'm giving you the names of all these gems compiled together in one place, saving you all the time and effort that would be required to uncover them yourself. Some of these are buried away in old sources, meaning there's a good chance that you'll never come across them unless someone tells you about them (which is exactly what I'm doing here). These are some of the best and most clever effects that I've come across in the magic literature.
I will be giving you the names of 6 such gems (and telling you where you can find each of them). 4 of these are impossible card location effects – that is, effects in which a card is selected and lost (under seemingly impossible conditions) and subsequently located. One of them is a phone telepathy effect. And the last one is a book test (the only non-card effect of the 6).
Below I am providing the effect description for just one of these 6 gems: the book test. It's the cleanest book test I've come across to date; it looks completely impossible. I found it buried away in an old source.
Imagine:
The magician hands the spectator a book. Then, while the magician's back is turned, the spectator opens the book to any page of their choosing and notes the first word, after which they close the book.
Once the book is closed, the magician turns back around and takes the book. He asks the spectator to concentrate on their word. The magician then flips through the book and eventually stops on a page … it is revealed to be the spectator's chosen page with their word on top. The spectator can thoroughly examine the book, if they want.
Some important conditions of note:
- During the selection procedure, the spectator can freely choose any page – there is no restriction of any kind.
- The magician's back is turned throughout the entire selection procedure – by the time he turns back around, the book is already closed (so there is no opportunity to peek at the page number or the selected word).
- If the spectator has a copy of the same book – or if they obtain a copy of the same book from, say, a local library – they can compare their copy to the magician's copy (that was used for the effect) page-by-page and word-by-word and they won't find any difference between the two.
- There are no electronic devices involved; there are no reflective surfaces involved; and there are no secret assistants.
