Gibecière 37, Winter 2024, Vol. 19, No. 1

We are delighted to present the thirty-seventh issue of our flagship journal Gibecière. The issue opens with Max Maven’s chronicle of Jews in magic. Originally intended to become a book, this article is the most finished draft of Max Maven’s work, offered to Gibecière by John Lovick. Richard Hatch follows up with details on the life and accomplishments of Günther Dammann, a young German Jew who, at the time of the Nazi party in Germany, published a compilation of biographical information on Jews in conjuring. Next, Pietro Micheli revives the Pinetti: New Discoveries article series from 2018 and 2019 with Part 5, revealing new information about Giuseppe Pinetti’s life and adventures. Lastly, Kei Izumi gives us a history of playing-card magic in Japan, exploring both its unique beginnings and the strong influences Western card magic exerted on it.
